Goal: Students use everyday items and link how changes in the climate could affect those items.
Objectives: Students will:

Materials (For a class of 30):
- Jar of maple syrupBaltimore Orioles baseball hat or baseball card2 Ski Poles or warm hats (2 things representing cold and snow)Fishing Pole2 duck callsOyster shell or pearlsSnorkel and/or maskBirdhouse or bird nestPicture of the crocodile hunterFlorida Panthers trading card or hat or t-shirt12 Trail CardsEffects - Student TimelineAffecting Me - Student Sheet

Time: 45 minute period
Standards Met: G3, G5, LA2, LA4, LA6, LA7, LA11, LA12
Procedure:
- Divide students into groups of two or three.Give each group of students the Effects - Student Timeline.Review each stage of the timeline.Give each group of students 1 item.Read through each trail card. Students should get the trail card that relates to their item.Allow students to fill in timeline showing how their item will be affected by global climate change.Give each student 12 blank copies of the timeline (enough to cover each presentation that will be made).Have each group present their findings.Each student should complete a timeline for each presentation.
- Give each student an Affecting Me - Student Sheet.
*Alternative - you can simply give the students the trail cards without the items.
