    The most interesting thing about the book was its use of the dog as a narrator. Apart from that the slate of trauma and hardships that fall upon the main human character are predictable and far too melodramatic for my liking. The racing metaphor that emerges through the book as a component holding the book together and the dog's aspirations to be more human and able to communicate are strong points but the plot is a bit too tidy and predictable. About two-thirds of the way through the book it was pretty easy to tell where things were going and it was something to get through rather than savour.

    I couldn't put this book down from start to finish. The beauty and ugliness of life and human nature is told from the perspective of one who can make you laugh and cry within the same chapter. Highly recommended!

  • Captivating but brutal book about life's curveball's

    This book starts off very sincere and almost too good to be true. However, like life, a good thing never lasts and this poor man's life takes a turn for the worst. I read the last half of this book in one night because I was so tormented by this man's hardships as he works to fulfil his dream. I couldn't put it down, even though it was absolutely torturing me, I had to make sure that his conflicts would be resolved. I would recommend this book if you are looking for an emotional read but not if you want some fluff for the summer months.
